Calm Medical Fears

This is an area of our lives where we can feel most powerless, fearful and vulnerable. No matter your personal fear; doctors, nurses, forms, needles, x-rays and scans, what that lump, bump, sensation, sore place could actually mean, white coats, that hospital smell, whatever triggers your alarm buttons, together we can calm those fears and help you cope much more easily with whatever you are needing to deal with.

Let Me Help You Be A Calm Patient

Our minds take in far more information at any one time than we are aware of. When we are going through something scary, or watching someone else go through something fearful, our minds are noting down all sorts of details and labelling them as indications of something threatening. This information is stored for future reference. So when these ‘triggers’ are recognised at a later date we become alerted to danger and feel afraid, even if the logical part of our brain tells us there is nothing to worry about. This is often the basis of phobic responses. Using Cognitive Therapy, we can defuse these triggers so your logical brain remains in charge and you can be calm. You can be YOU rather than the fear.

It is useful to remember that whilst calm our body’s immune system runs efficiently. When we go into panic mode the immune system is switched off so that all the body’s energy can be directed into fight or flight. Not helpful for healing.

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how everything went with the surgery. The recording and the breathing exercises proved incredibly useful!

I had no problem with the pre-operative stage and the breathing technique was great for getting into the right frame of mind during the month period of waiting around on my own. They had me walk myself down to the operating theatre and I was completely relaxed about what was a pretty surreal experience! Many thanks again for all your help in this.

Thank you so much for helping me in overcoming my phobia of injections. I had them done on Wednesday with no fuss at all. You have given me the chance to move on with my life, being brave.
